Non-Emergency Medical Transportation

Description: Programs that provide transportation for medical appointments, trips from and between hospitals, to nursing homes or other special-care centers or for other non-emergency medical needs for individuals who, because of financial problems or their physical condition, are unable to use other means of local transportation. NEMT service providers are able to transport riders who require a wheelchair lift equipped vehicle with appropriate protective restraints or a van that is designed for gurney/stretcher transportation, or has other types of features to meet their safety needs. Services Provided: Angel Flight West is a nonprofit, volunteer-driven organization that arranges free, non-emergency air travel for children and adults with serious medical conditions and other compelling needs. Our network of 1,400+ pilots throughout the 13 western states donate their aircraft, piloting skills, and all flying costs to help families in need, enabling them to receive vital treatment that might otherwise be inaccessible because of financial, medical, or geographic limitations.

Eligibility: Disabled persons (stroke, head injury, amputation, etc.). Must be referred to the program by attending physician. Services available to residents in Missoula and surrounding areas. Will accept referrals statewide.
Services Provided: Evaluate disabled persons ability to safely drive a car. Evaluates disabled driver for ability to see, react, make good decisions, and handle city, county, and highway driving. Recommends specific driver training &/or special equipment to assist. Must already have a current drivers license or current learner's permit. Additional Info: Provides I&R regarding types of special equipment, where to purchase and persons who install equipment. Will train on used of specialized equipment. *Fees may be paid in whole or part by a private insurance company, Workers Compensation, and Vocational Rehabilitation. Medicaid and Medicare will not cover fees. Must be referred by attending physician.
