Eligibility: Children ages 0-3 with developmental delay or disabilities, or who have established conditions which place the child at risk of developmental delay. Children older than three and adults with significant disabilities. They serve the counties of Yellowstone, Stillwater, Sweetgrass, Mussellshell, Big Horn, Carbon, Fergus, Wheatland, Judith Basin, Golden Valley and Petroleum. Although STEP’s main office is located in Billings, there are also satellite offices located at Lewistown (Fergus County) and Red Lodge (Carbon County).
Services Provided: STEP offers early intervention for families in South Central Montana communities who have children ages birth to 3 years old with developmental delays and/or disabilities, or at risk for developmental delay. Programs are developed based on best practices and evidenced-based services for children and services occur in the child’s most natural environment, which is typically the home.

STEP also offers a range of services for older children and adults with disabilities including Family Support Specialists who work with families to develop a plan of supports that address the family’s priorities and concerns. They provide emotional support, information and coordination of services and resources and if appropriate a trained support aide to work directly with the child and family. They say “Our goal is to empower you and your child to achieve the goals you set for personal growth and achievement.”
